Language exchange

I’ve just learned about a language exchange website called www.xlingo.com.  The website is designed for people to communicate with each other while learning different languages.  The whole idea is that if I wanted to learn french I would sign up for the french forums, and I would be communicating with people who already speak french.  It’s a total immersion type of experience.

Foreign languages

I took Spanish in junior high school, thinking that I would use it in the “real world” more than any other foreign language.  I had read lots of articles about how the fastest growing population is Hispanic, so I took Spanish.  Then I moved to a state where NO ONE speaks Spanish!  The primary language is English, the secondary language is French-Canadian.  So I think I would have been better off taking french in school!

Continuing education

I’ve learned that there is an online service that provides continuing education for professional engineers via online courses.  The name of the service is Ced Engineering.   This would be a great service for those professional engineers who have already received their college degree and want to learn a little bit more about a particular aspect of engineering; say for example about Taking Toxics Out of the Air or about Wind Energy.  Those particular topics would be of great interest to me, if I were an engineer, because of the environmental concerns that I have for the earth.  You can sign up for the courses at www.cedengineering.com

Keep on learning!

I am an advocate for always continuing my/your education.  When you stop learning new things, you stop living!  I don’t mean that you always have to take a class that requires studying books and doing homework; classes can be for fun too!  And I don’t mean that you always have to be taking classes that require you to leave the house; you can take courses online, or just learn at home through reading books that interest you!  I think people should always strive to keep their minds active and inquisitive.  To stop learning is to become stagnant and bored (and boring!)
