Raising money for lupus patients

There is an Internet company called Firstgiving.com that is devoted to helping people and nonprofit organizations raise money online for their nonprofit causes.  One of the causes that is dear to my heart is the lupus fundraising cause.  I say that because there is a dear sweet old lady who has been my mother’s best friend for the past sixty years that suffers from lupus.  She practically raised my sisters and me as much as my own mother did.  Firstgiving has already helped many thousands of people raise millions for thousands of different non-profit causes.  I think that it is wonderful that the Internet has made this type of good cause possible!

Boy it sure got warm here yesterday

It went into the low 80’s here yesterday, highly unusual for this part of the country!  It made we want to go back to camp and spend the day on a pool float in the lake!  I do NOT like the heat at all, anything over 74 is too warm for me!  And oh my goodness, don’t the black flies LOVE it when it gets that hot out!  They are vicious this time of year!  Thank goodness they will phase out pretty soon, they will be replaced by mosquitoes in a few days!  YAY!  At least mosquitoes take a nap during the heat of the day!

Use the real thing!

My mother-in-law was talking to me today about having a family reunion party, and we were discussing the menu and recipes.  We were talking about whether to use sugar substitute or real sugar.  I told her that I thought that we should use Icumsa 45 Brazilian sugar for some of the desserts.  I believe that for a big party, we should use only the best products we can get!  She was concerned about family diabetics, and I told her that I thought we could have some sugar-free desserts, too, but I really prefer the taste of real sugar, and I think that everything in moderation is fine.

Sugar and sugar substitutes

My hubby is a diabetic, so I am always trying to get him to use sugar substitute products. In support, I use sugar substitute in my morning tea. However, sometimes there simply is no substitute for the real thing – those sugar substitute products sometimes leave a nasty aftertaste that simply ruins the joy of eating! I’ve tried the sugar substitutes in baking, and they just come out nasty! Everything is okay in moderation! When we consume sugary snacks, we cut back on some kind of carb later in the day
