It wasn’t too long ago that I was looking for a job
I remember when I was out in the vast sea of unemployed workers looking for a job, how tedious and frustrating the process was of job hunting. Years ago most of the job opportunities were listed in the “help wanted” sections of the newspapers, but not anymore! It seems that most of the jobs out there are found either through word of mouth or through the Internet.
I’m out on maternity leave right now, but I know that my job is waiting for me when I get back, so I am thankfully not in the job market at the moment. But I do know several people who ARE in the job market, and they have spent many long hours filling out application forms over the Internet, signing up for all kinds of services that claim that they will help them find jobs, and they get nothing but junk.
I can remember registering myself on a lot of different sites, giving them my full resume information, only to be given regular updated lists of potential employers that really had nothing to do with my interests. I even went to several employment agencies and took all of their little tests and was told that they would call me. They never did! Let me tell you, that gets old really fast! Now you may think that perhaps I’m unemployable, but that is not the case, I am a highly trained highly efficient college educated person who could do a huge variety of jobs in just about any business. I suspect that in this job market, in this little town, I might be “over qualified” for many of the job opportunities, but, like I said, I’m on maternity leave and my job is waiting for me.
There is a free employment service in the Internet called Career Network I learned about recently that seems to be different than most of the other Internet job services out there. They are job recruiters, looking for qualified candidates for their clients. They actually SCREEN the job applicants and make sure that they qualify for the jobs that are offered, and then they notify job applicant of the job opportunities that match their qualifications and then they invite the applicant to apply directly to the employer.
One of the things that makes this company unique is that they do not charge either the job applicant OR the employer for their services; they make their money through advertising dollars.
