Commission Soup

My hubby’s boss called me today and asked me to research a company called Commission Soup and get back to him and fill him in.  He explained that last weekend at a trade show he was speaking with a representative from another company whose booth was next to his and that he mentioned doing business with Commission Soup.  He was intrigued, and wanted me to find out as much about it, and its programs as I could find out.

I said I’d try to work it into my busy schedule between changing diapers!  Commission Soup is a privately owned company that works with other companies around the United States.  It is an online Affiliate Network Marketing that brings together companies to the Commission Soup’s affiliates.  The affiliates help the companies to market and sell their products.  Doing a little bit of research, I discovered that “affiliate” is a fancy word for “marketing employee” or “salesperson.”  Commission Soup recruits businesses (clients) that need help with marketing and promotion, so Commission Soup then hires affiliates and then gets them to promote their clients.

Looking at their website, I see that Commission Soup currently has 32 different promotional programs, with dozens of company clients within each program.  For example, their Home and Garden program has nineteen very well known companies inside the program.  Their credit card program has one hundred and eighty five clients!

In this particular instance, the affiliates promote the clients over the Internet through their websites, and they earn a monthly commission check based on results that are tracked through a sophisticated tracking program.  Commission Soup provides their affiliates with marketing material and program information to help them promote the clients.

It looks like it would be easy to sign up with Commission Soup, either as a merchant or an affiliate.  Commission Soup would be a really good opportunity for a company to expand its Internet presence, increase leads, and find new clients.  It also sounds like a great opportunity for a person to become an affiliate and make some pretty good commission money through promoting the clients on their websites.

Martha Stewart’s company

I was reading on MSN that Martha Stewart’s Company is doomed.  It backed up its claim by noting that the CEO that took over the company when Martha had her legal troubles had resigned.  Business has not done as well as when Martha ran the company.  Well, I think the answer to that problem is simple – put Martha back in charge!  I’ve always liked Martha Stewart, and I think she got a bum rap!

Listing in a new web based directory

My cousin called me today and told me that she had done a people search for me on a new web based directory that she had found out about, and that she didn’t find me listed there.  So I went to the new site, called www.peekyou.com and found out that I was, indeed, not in their directory.  I saw that it had a feature that I could add myself into their directory, so I went ahead and added my own personal listing.  There seems to be a snafu in the program because it did not recognize any of the cities in the entire state that I live in.  So I had to leave that section blank, which was kind of a disappointment.

FEMA fiascos to begin anew?

Listening to all of the terrible news about the floods in Iowa, and how FEMA is going to be helping them, I recall the Katrina ice fiasco.  They tried to ship ice to the Katrina locations, but couldn’t get through, so they shipped the ice in refrigerated trucks to various locations around the country.  One of those locations was close by here, in Portland Maine!  They paid for storage of the ice while waiting for a “use” for it.

They stored the ice for TWO YEARS, and finally decided last July to dump it.  Their very own guidelines about storing ice say that they can only store the ice for three months before dumping it, but they stored it for TWO YEARS!  The storage fees cost us taxpayers 12.5 million dollars!

Thanks for the help FEMA!
