Vacation favorites

One of my favorite places to take a vacation is Orlando Florida.  There are so many things to do in Orlando! I absolutely adore going to DisneyWorld and Universal Studios.  When I was younger I would take every single vacation I had driving to Orlando and spending every waking minute in one of the theme parks.  I was always disappointed that at least one attraction was closed for renovations or updating or being removed and replaced because I always loved every single attraction at DisneyWorld and wanted to see and do them all.  I LOVE going to the character breakfast meals at DisneyWorld.  One summer we were lucky enough to stay in the Hawaiian themed accommodations on the park property.  I LOVED staying there; there was a great restaurant there that served up the best stuffed french toast for breakfast!  I bought the recipe book and tried to duplicate it at home, but it just wasn’t the same.  And we went to one of the luaus held there, that was so much fun!  I LOVED being able to walk out of our room and straight onto the Monorail that took us straight into the Magic Kingdom.  We even got to enter the Magic Kingdom an hour before the gates opened to the general public!  It was WONDERFUL!

But DisneyWorld is a long ways away from where I live now and driving there is a lot more tedious, so when we go there now we fly instead of drive.  More locally to where we live I enjoy spending vacation time in Boston.  I love going to Fanueil Hall and Quincy Market.  I love going to the tavern that inspired the television show “Cheers.”  And I love going to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

When I start planning our next vacation I will be checking out the Trusted Tours & Attractions Company’s online travel guides for advice on things to do and see. I’m signing up for their newsletter, too. I understand whoever signs up for their newsletter is automatically entered in a contest to win a $150 iTunes Gift Card!

CSI Cast changes

This past year I’ve been too busy, and too tired to stay up and watch one of my favorite television shows, CSI. The original one, in Las Vegas. I love that show, and I’ve dearly missed watching it. I know I should have taped it and watched it later, and I tried to, but the tapes built up unwatched and it just didn’t work out. Taking care of a newborn baby is very time consuming! I just read on my Yahoo news page (right before coming to my blog) that the main star, William Petersen, who plays Gil Grissom is leaving the show this year to pursue other acting interests. My heart is broken. I can’t imagine the show without him! I know he took a sabbatical for a few weeks before, but we knew it was only for a few weeks, and I could handle that. A permanent leave? I just cannot imagine it!

Car rental specials

More people are turning to car rental as an alternative to air travel lately.  All of the challenges of traveling by air are very discouraging.  The prices are going up, the service is going down.  Having to go through security, the long lines, it just is making alternative travel arrangements more attractive to the consumer.  The advantage.com website is a car rental agency website that offers a lot of specials and low prices on one-way or two-way car rental travel.  Right now they are running a special to rent a car one-way from Florida to Chicago for $1.00 a day!  So this website is definitely worth checking out when making travel plans.

HIV travel ban to be lifted soon

I did not know that there was a twenty year ban on people who tested HIV positive traveling or immigrating from other countries into the United States!  I was just reading on the Time website that there are a dozen countries that ban HIV positive people from traveling into their countries.  I was really surprised to learn about the ban, and really glad to hear that it will probably be lifted soon.  Having said that, it will take an act of Congress to lift the ban!  There is supposed to be a vote on that this week.  It will be interesting to see if it passes.
