Mother in law ordering new daycare playground equipment

Since it has been a rainy weekend, we didn’t go to camp.  We stayed home instead to do some indoor projects around the house and try to relax a little bit.  Yesterday afternoon my mother-in-law dropped in to talk to me about the daycare equipment that she has in her backyard.  She was thinking about getting rid of some of the older equipment and replacing them with new equipment.

Cheap eyeglasses over the Internet

I’ve noticed that a lot of people that I meet wear eyeglasses.  Most of them wear them for sitting at the computer, to help with eyestrain.  I wear eyeglasses myself!  One of the things that has bothered me about eyeglasses is that my health insurance company will pay for the eye exam, but not the eyeglasses themselves.  So I often pay over $200 for my eyeglasses out of pocket.  By the time I get the progressive lenses and the scratch resistant coating and the lenses that darken when you go outside, it is close to $300!  And of that cost, about $150 of it is only for the frames!  When I ask for cheaper frames I get really nasty looking things that I’ve heard people refer to as “birth control glasses.”

Zenni Optical is an Internet company that has been getting a lot of publicity lately.  They have been featured on the Fox channel news, and discussed on the Clark Howard Show, which is a popular radio talk show dedicated to consumer advocacy.  The Zenni Optical Company sells inexpensive prescription eyeglasses over the Internet.  Their cheapest pair is only $8!  They have a huge selection of styles and colors to choose from.  The next time I have to buy new eyeglasses, I’ll be checking them out!

California to lay off state employees?

I was hearing that Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed an order to lay off 22,000 California state employees, and cut the pay of 200,000 more to minimum wage.  That is quite an action!  I was reading on the LATimes.com website that this is just a temporary measure until the state government approves a budget for the coming year.  It’s unfortunate that he had to take such an action!  Maybe that will motivate them to get it approved!
