Pumpkins

Last evening was such a pleasant evening that I decided to carve a couple of pumpkins out on the front porch.  I’ve always enjoyed carving pumpkins for Halloween decorations; but I especially love roasting the seeds and eating the pumpkin seeds later.  That’s something that my mother taught me to do when I was a little girl, and it is just part of the autumn season tradition.  If pumpkins seeds aren’t roasted, it just isn’t Halloween for me!

Tony Roma ribs

I was delighted when I went grocery shopping yesterday to find a package of Tony Roma brand barbecued short ribs in the refrigerator section of the grocery store!  I can remember a few years ago my hubby and I went on a vacation to DisneyWorld and we rented a condo near the resort.  Two nights we went to eat dinner at a nearby Tony Roma restaurant.  We had never eaten at a Tony Roma restaurant before, but we had heard that they had the best ribs in the world, so we decided to go try them out for ourselves.  Well, we liked them so much we returned for a second time a couple of days later.  So I was thrilled to find their ribs in the grocery store and I picked up a package.  I hope to serve them for dinner this weekend!  I’ll let you know how I like them!

Suing God?

I was reading on the telegraph.co.uk website that there is a Nebraska state Senator named Ernie Chambers that filed a lawsuit last year against God!   I had not heard that before now, he apparently filed the case September of 2007.  Just this week a judge dismissed the case without prejudice, saying that God cannot be sued because he has no known address!

Boy, it sure takes all kinds, doesn’t it!  What a nutcase!  I hope that Senator does not win his re-election bid, we don’t need nutcases like that in our government!

Long holiday weekend

My hubby has a three day weekend this weekend, in honor of Columbus Day.  So we are packing up the car for a long weekend at camp.  This is when we are going to prepare the camp for the winter, make sure that everything is all set and good to go.  We’ll be going for one last boat ride, enjoying the beautiful foliage reflecting off of the lake, and then we’ll be bringing in the dock and hauling the boat to the storage yard where they can clean it up, winterize it and shrink wrap it for the winter.

We’ll be bringing all of the linens home to keep any rodents from nesting in them, and we’ll be putting out decon traps to keep them from making our place their winter home.  It’s supposed to be good weather so I’m looking forward to the last camp outing of the season.

Custom built homes

I’ve been seeing a lot of news stories about “McMansion” homes - modular homes that are huge modular houses that have been cropping up all over the countryside.  Just the term “McMansion” that has been tagged onto these large homes is offensive to me.

These cookie-cutter type modular homes may be large, but they just can’t possibly be as nice as a custom-built on your lot house built by Schumacher Homes.  Schumacher Homes has been building high quality custom homes for the past sixteen years in Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and West Virginia.  They offer over fifty floor plans, all of which are completely customizable to suit the needs of the families that they are building the houses for.
