Merry Christmas

Yesterday was Christmas.  We had a good time.  Naturally baby was more interested in playing with the boxes and wrapping paper and ribbons than the actual presents!  I knew that was going to happen, but hubby was very surprised by it!  I keep telling him that the baby is too young to really understand what is going on yet but I guess he doesn’t believe me.  I know that the first couple of Christmases are fun to watch the baby, but that the baby really doesn’t understand that gifts are happening!

In the afternoon we had Christmas dinner next door at mother-in-law’s place.  She had invited the entire family to dinner.  We took over some apple and pecan pies and ice cream.  We let her use our oven to cook some of her casseroles - we love her corn pudding and sweet potato casseroles!  It was nice to see all of the brothers and sisters and cousins, etc.  There were no major food spills, no disasters.  It was a good day.  I hope yours was too!

Office Christmas Party

Hubby’s Office Christmas party is tonight.  I’ve lined up my mother-in-law to babysit while we go out.  The party is at the town’s fanciest restaurant; he’s reserved their banquet room.  We’re supposed to get “all gussied up” in our finest clothes.  This is a big to-do; the boss hands out bonus checks at the end of the party!  He usually hands out pretty good bonuses, so we are looking forward to going and seeing how much the bonus is.  My hubby is hoping the bonus is big enough to buy that new wide-screen tv he’s been mooning over.

Christmas television

Well my hubby has been very insistent that we watch the Christmas television specials together this year “for the baby.”  That’s all well and good, but I have seen those shows enough times that I really don’t care to watch them again for a while longer.  Again, baby being so young I don’t think he’ll remember any of it.  Humoring him, however, I said we could watch them together as long as HE held the baby and kept the baby entertained while I stayed in the room and wrapped Christmas gifts or worked on some craft items that I want to get done before Christmas or addressed Christmas cards and get them ready to mail.  So that is what we have been doing and it seems to be working out well.  I can deal with this tradition if my hubby is the caretaker while the shows are running!

The tree is up

Well thankfully my mother-in-law took the baby to her place for me yesterday for a few hours so I could get the tree up and decorated.  Hubby put the lights on it Saturday morning, and then I tried to decorate it some Saturday afternoon while the baby napped, but it didn’t get finished.  So it worked out well for baby to go next door while I finished it up.  It looks nice.  We had to put it inside the baby corral to keep baby from getting into it!

Christmas Tree

My hubby wanted to take us to the Christmas Tree farm last Sunday to cut down the tree with him.  He said he wanted to start a family tradition of the whole family going and choosing the tree and cutting it down and hauling it home.  I can understand the sentiment, but I told him that I was too tired and the baby is too young to even remember something like that - maybe next year.  He was disappointed, but I was firm and so he went and picked one out by himself and brought it home.  He did a good job of picking out a good tree, and I plan on decorating it over the course of next weekend - but he wants to put on the lights himself so I need to wait for him to get that done.
