Business

A new website

My friend Linda wants to start a Personal Chef business.  She’s been doing a lot of research about it and thinks that there would be a good market for it where she lives.  She’s always loved to cook, and I have to admit that she’s never cooked a meal that I didn’t like!  I think that’s a great idea for a business for her!  So she’s in the process of getting set up with marketing and planning her service contracts, etc.

She asked me to help her to put up her website.  So I’ve arranged to get her URL for her and am now looking into the right website hosting service for her to use.

I like the webhostinggeeks.com website because they rank and rate a lot of the best hosting services.  I especially like their green webhosting reviews; I want to throw business to any company that is working proactively towards improving our environment!

I like how they explain what green webhosting is, and how it can help protect our environment.  Their list of green hosting companies shows some are wind or solar powered, some are carbon neutral, and some claim to be 300% green.  And I find it very appealing that the rates for these green website hosting companies are very reasonable.

Favor for the boss

We came home from camp early this weekend. The baby was cranky and the weather was rainy, so we decided to pack it up and come home.

It’s a good thing that we came home when we did because when we got home we found that a tree had been struck by lightning and fallen up against the house.  So we needed the time here to clear up that mess.  It would have been awful to come home late Sunday night to find that when we both had to get up early the next morning!  Isn’t it funny how life throws you a curveball sometimes!  Thankfully there wasn’t any serious damage to the house, just cosmetic stuff.

We had no sooner finished cleaning up that mess than we got a phone call from the boss that he wants us to help teach his daughter how to create her own website. So she’ll be coming over tomorrow and I’ll be working with her, showing her the ropes.

I’ll be helping her to get her own domain, and help her to decide which webhosting service to use. I’ll direct her to take a look at the webhostingrating.com website and read a few of their articles about webhosting and their reviews of which webhosting services would best fit her needs. I think that they are a good resource to turn to when looking at getting a new webhost.  They review hundreds of services, not just a few, so it may take a while!

Then I’ll give her a crash course on using Front Page, and creating a blog

Email from my Australian cousin

I just received an email from a cousin that lives in a very rural area of Australia.  I was so surprised to get an email from her!  The last I’d heard from her was by US Mail, and she complained that she lived in such a rural area that she could not get Internet Access!  That news alone was a big shock to me because I’ve had Internet access for such a long time; it seemed to me that she would have had Internet access for a while now too!

Level of incompetence

Have you ever noticed the Peter Principle at work? Of course you have, you probably just did not know what it was when you were observing it! The Peter Principle is simply this: People get promoted in their jobs until they reach a level of incompetency. That is where they remain.

This is why most of the time we find ourselves dealing with incompetent people in our day to day business. The people have risen to their level of incompetence. If by chance we find someone who does their job well, they have not been promoted enough!

Information about web hosting

As the information age matures, there will be more demand for domain names and webhosting.  I think it will be very interesting to see how this develops as time goes on.  I know that more people are turning to the Internet for information, research, social networking, and shopping.  I think it is amazing to learn about products and services that a few years ago I would not have known about at all!  The Internet truly does make the world smaller; making so many more things within easy reach to anyone who has a computer and Internet access!

It seems to me that more and more of my friends and acquaintances are interesting in creating their own websites.  It just seems like a good way to get the word out about whatever you are interested in.  Many of the websites are about sharing interests about things like geneaology, or interests like clubs for a type of classic car, or breed of dog.  What a huge variety is out there!

As the Internet grows, there will be more people needing to learn about there webhosting options.  A great place to learn about those options is the webhostinggeeks.com website.  They review and rank many of the leading webhosting services, making it easier for the consumer to decide which service best fits their needs.
