Ms Jenn is having eyelid surgery tomorrow

My mother sent me an email to tell me that her good friend Ms Jenn is having eyelid surgery tomorrow.  For the past fifteen years Ms. Jenn has complained that the skin above her eyes has been steadily falling further and further down over her eyes.  At first she was just complaining about it because she thought it made her look old and tired.  (Well, she IS old, but doesn’t want to LOOK old!)  Recently she went to have her vision checked and she was complaining to her eye doctor that her glasses just weren’t helping her to see as well as she thought she should be able to see.  He referred her to a Detroit eyelid surgery clinic called Accents.

He told her that he felt that what she probably needed to have done was called a Blepharoplasty procedure.  That’s an eyelid rejuvenation surgery that will lift her eyelids up and improve her vision and her appearance.  The procedure should be able to be completed in only about ninety minutes, and her recovery should be fairly short.  She was told that afterwards she would only need to apply ice to the area and take Tylenol for the pain.  I don’t know why Tylenol (that stuff doesn’t work for me) and not ibuprofen, but that is what they told her.  I hope she is happy with the results!

A fun online game - Spicy Town

My younger cousin sent me an email, inviting me to “meet her online” in Spicy Town. Spicy Town is a fictitious town in an online video game produced by the company that sells Slim Jim spicy snacks. So I went to the online game site to meet my cousin there. I had to create an avatar to use to play the game. It was kind of fun, creating the avatar. The avatar was called my “spicy side.” Setting up my “spicy side” was quick, easy, and amusing. I had to take a picture of myself and upload it to their site, then their program helped center my facial features around their pre-drawn outline of facial features, then they make a funny little creature with horns and funky hair, and then they turned me loose into the video game.

During the game I was supposed to go around collecting Slim Jims that I found lying around on the ground. I only found three, but I only played for a few minutes, trying to find my cousin. There were other people’s avatars in the game walking around too. Some seemed to be fighting with each other (I don’t know why, maybe one insulted the other, those spicy sides are unpredictable and uncontrollable!) some were just walking around ranting and raving. The game has chat functions and buddy lists and chat functions, but I didn’t stay on it long enough to check those out; the baby started fussing and I had to get off the computer and take care of lunch time!

If you want to play the game yourself, go to www.spicyside.com!

Callie’s mother

Callie is flying out to Phoenix tomorrow and asked me to drive her to the airport.  She is flying out to see her elderly mother, who recently fell down and broke her hip.  Her mother has been in a nursing home for the past couple of weeks and they want to send her home.  Callie doesn’t want her mother home alone and thinks that it is time that she found her mother one of the Desert Comfort Company’s Assisted Living Homes in Phoenix, Arizona that she found on the Internet and moved her into one of their units.

Callie tells me that Desert Comfort has been in the assisted living business for over a decade, and they are passionate about taking good care of our elderly loved ones.  They have state certified caregivers there 24/7 and provide complete medication management.  If the residents wish to participate in entertainment activities, they have arts and crafts, games, weekly musical entertainment, and other activities.  They also have a weekly beautician available for residents who want perm or a hair cut.  They advertise that they serve delicious home cooked meals and daily snacks, too.  From looking at their website, it appears that these homes are not apartments or condos, but actual houses that the residents share, each house accommodates up to five residents.

My sister-in-law wants to start dating again

My sister-in-law recently divorced, and after staying home alone for about nine months licking her wounds has announced that she is finally ready to start dating again.  She came over last night for supper and we were talking about how it is about time that she started dating again, and the rules of dating.  Since it is so hard to find good babysitters in this area I offered to babysit her kids while she went out on her dates.

I suggested that she consider online dating; it would widen the dating pool and help her find some good matches with much less effort than it would take the “old fashioned” way.  I told her that I know several people that have had good luck with online matchmaking services, and that it’s not a bad social stigma anymore to use a service like that.

Today I’m sending her an email to further encourage her about that, and to encourage her to visit the http://www.primedatingsites.com website.

That website compares and reviews many of the more popular online dating services.  I checked out the website myself and found that it talks about Chemistry.com, Match.com, and Eharmony.com along with several other matchmaking sites.  I think that online dating sites are the wave of the future, and I think that they are providing a valuable service in today’s society.

Graduations

I went to a local high school graduation ceremony last night, to show support for one of my nephews who was graduating.

I want to comment on a couple of things that I noticed.  First of all, I was appalled by how many parents let their young elementary aged school girls dress like street walkers.

Second of all, even though I know that it was “all in fun” I thought it was downright disrespectful to the speakers of the ceremony for the graduating class was bouncing beach balls around.  There were a lot of people who worked really hard to get to the point of graduating with high honors and getting great scholarships, and having other kids disrespecting them by bouncing beach balls around during their speeches simply disgusted me.  They should be ashamed of themselves!  There is a time and place for everything, and the  after-graduation  party was the time and place for that kind of thing.
