Home and Garden

My favorite furniture

I love the rustic furniture that we have in our camp.  I love it because it makes me think of simpler times, and it gives me a peaceful feeling.  My favorite furniture, though rustic, has lots of cushioning to it so that it is comfortable.  I don’t like anything that is too straight in the back, either.  Sitting bolt upright straight reminds me of sitting in a church pew and that is NOT my idea of comfort!  I love the casual feel that calls out to me “go ahead and kick off your shoes and relax.”

I also really like the “craftsman style” furniture in our year-round home.  Lots of wood, but also lots of cushioning.  I really like admiring the work that went into a piece of furniture.

Mother’s Day

Yesterday was Mother’s Day.  It was such a nice day; my hubby made sure that I didn’t have to lift a finger doing anything other than entertain the baby from time to time.  He even did diaper duty!  I got to putter around in my flower garden (which is something I love to do!) planting the new pansies that he bought me as a Mother’s Day gift.  He also bought me some new Daylilies which are supposed to rebloom, and I got to plant them, too!  He cooked a nice crock-pot chicken for supper, and we had home made bread.  We had his mother join us for dinner, which was very nice too.  Yes, it was a good day.

May Day

I always go buy some flowers at the store on May Day. Just an inexpensive bouquet and put them in a small basket to put on the dining room table. It reminds me of the May Days that I celebrated as a youth, when I lived further south and I could just pick fresh flowers and put them in baskets. Up here the flowers just aren’t ready to be picked. The flower season is way too short here! And May Day serves to remind me of that!

Steaming the kitchen floor

A few months ago I was up in the wee hours of the morning and turned on the TV set. There was an infomercial on, selling the Shark steamer cleaner. Well, our white vinyl kitchen floor seems to have some stains on it (they were there when we bought the house) and I have tried everything I could think of to get the stains out, and they just would not go away!

So, I bought the Shark steamer cleaner, thinking that this product might do the trick.

Overall, I like using it better than a mop and bucket. It would be more convenient if they had designed the cord to run up the handle instead of just coming straight out of the bottom of the unit, that is awkward.

The steamer DOES clean pretty well, but it did NOT remove the stains that I hoped it would remove. What it DID remove, however, was the shiny finish on the vinyl flooring. So now I guess I have to find a product to put the shine back to it, or just live with a dull floor.

Additionally, my kitchen is only average sized, and the water receptacle had to be filled a second time to finish the kitchen floor, which surprised me. I had expected it to be able to do the entire floor without having to refill it.

Practical, yet pretty

I’m a very practical person.  I like everything to do “double duty.”  I’m not the kind of person who wants to fill up the house with things just because they are pretty, I want them to have a practical purpose as well.  And I want things to be “unique.”  Not like something that everyone else has.  That’s one reason why I love the dress seiko watches at the bluedial.com website.  My favorite is the Seiko SYL723 Ladies Stainless Steel Asymmetrical Design Dress Watch.  It has to be one of the most unusual, yet most elegant watch I’ve seen in a very long time.  I’m putting that watch on my “wish list” for the next gift-giving occasionso that when my hubby asks me what I’d like for a gift I can tell him!  If you like great watches too, the bluedial.com website is a good place to find one!
