Getting back in shape

Now that baby is walking, and claiming some independence, I’ve decided to start to leave him with my mother-in-law a few times a week to get him used to being around others while I’m not around.  I’ll be going back to work soon, and I think doing this seperation thing in stages is a good thing for both of us!  So I’ve signed up to take some ballet classes from a local ballet studio that holds adult ballet classes.  I used to take ballet when I was young, and I really enjoyed it.  Dancing is a good way to get back in shape, and taking dance classes is less stressful to me than going to the gym because in a dance class there are no men gaping at you!  I’ve been looking at the Capezio Dance website to see what kind of dancewear that they carry for me to buy.  It is impressive the huge line of dancewear they carry – from unitards body tights to Custom Ballet Slippers!

Going out to camp this weekend

My hubby wants to go out to camp this weekend and see how it fared the long cold winter.  We’re not planning to spend a lot of time, just a quick look-see.  We’ll probably leave the baby with my mother-in-law because it really won’t be any fun for the baby, and I’d just as soon not bring him with us on this trip, just in case my hubby needs my help.  Now that the baby is walking it is hard to get things done sometimes!  We’ll be bringing the chain saw and work gloves with us in case we have to cut our way in!  I hope that we don’t find any major damage to it!  It has been a very snowy winter!

Soulful cries

Last night when we were trying to drift off to sleep we heard the eeriest sounds.  It sounded like a child screeching in terror.  We jumped out of bed and went outside in our pajamas and bathrobes, taking our flashlights to see if we could find out what it was, just in case it really WAS a child being killed by some crazy person, but we couldn’t find anything since the sound had stopped.  That sound haunted me all night and I didn’t sleep a wink.  My hubby suggested that it might have been the death cry of a rabbit; he had heard that it makes a bone-chilling scream when it dies.  Of course I hate to think of that, but I guess it’s better than a child being hurt!

February is here at last!

February is here at last!  February is usually the coldest month of the year up here, and so far that is ringing true – it is 20 degrees below zero, and we have more snow than you can shake a stick at!  I’ve been trying to stay indoors as much as possible because it is a big to-do to get the baby all bundled up to go somewhere.  It seems that the minute you have everyone ready to walk out the door, the baby needs a diaper change, and we’re almost back to square one!  That is one thing about babies that is difficult; keeping the baby dry when you have to bundle up to go out in the cold!  And it really is important to keep the baby dry when it is cold out, to keep the baby from getting sick.

Merry Christmas

Yesterday was Christmas.  We had a good time.  Naturally baby was more interested in playing with the boxes and wrapping paper and ribbons than the actual presents!  I knew that was going to happen, but hubby was very surprised by it!  I keep telling him that the baby is too young to really understand what is going on yet but I guess he doesn’t believe me.  I know that the first couple of Christmases are fun to watch the baby, but that the baby really doesn’t understand that gifts are happening!

In the afternoon we had Christmas dinner next door at mother-in-law’s place.  She had invited the entire family to dinner.  We took over some apple and pecan pies and ice cream.  We let her use our oven to cook some of her casseroles – we love her corn pudding and sweet potato casseroles!  It was nice to see all of the brothers and sisters and cousins, etc.  There were no major food spills, no disasters.  It was a good day.  I hope yours was too!
