Inauguration Day

What a historical day today is!  I was watching the inauguration day on television, marveling at how many people braved the cold weather to stand outside and watch the ceremony.  I hope they don’t all catch pneumonia from being out there!  Well, I sure hope now the country can get down to business and fix these problems we are having!

Suing God?

I was reading on the telegraph.co.uk website that there is a Nebraska state Senator named Ernie Chambers that filed a lawsuit last year against God!   I had not heard that before now, he apparently filed the case September of 2007.  Just this week a judge dismissed the case without prejudice, saying that God cannot be sued because he has no known address!

Boy, it sure takes all kinds, doesn’t it!  What a nutcase!  I hope that Senator does not win his re-election bid, we don’t need nutcases like that in our government!

Golden parachutes

I’ve been interested to hear about the provisions of the big bailout that the USA is giving to the big banks that have been having so much trouble recently.  What has interested me the most was the provisions capping executive salaries and golden parachutes.  For decades now I have felt that the salary of all top executives of all big corporations (and their golden parachutes) have been obscenely outrageously high.

I know the “argument” is that the companies need to pay their top executives that much money to attract and keep them running the companies, and all I have to say about that is “hogwash.”  That comment is an insult to the American consumer’s intelligence.  Their high salaries are sim[ply outrageous, period.

China’s struggles with scandals

I was just reading on the time.com website that China’s Premier, Wen Jiabao has “apologized” for the most recent scandal to hit China - the poisoned milk scandal. The article goes on to list other scandals that have been plaguing China and asks the question “Is sorry enough?” The article seems to imply that although China is apologizing, nothing is really going to change. I sure hope that is not the case! China needs to step up to the plate and fix their problems if they expect to be doing business with the rest of the world!

Lipstick on pigs

I understand that there was a big uproar recently over a comment that Barack Obama made about how you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.  Some people think that he was calling Sarah Palin a pig!  I don’t think that at all!  I get so upset about how (during election years) everything one candidate says is scrutinized and turned around!  Seemed to me just an adage like ”you can call a rose by any other name, it is still a rose.”  Perhaps that is what Barack Obama SHOULD have said!  Hey Barack Obama, you should hire me as a consultant to your speeches!  Maybe I could keep you out of some hot water!
