New milk jugs

I saw on the today show (I think it was yesterday) a story about how the price of gasoline continuing to rise is going to be causing the price of milk to jump to $6.00 a gallon in very short order! I hope that they are mistaken, milk is already more expensive than soda! It is hard enough to get kids to drink milk INSTEAD of soda because kids prefer the sweetened drinks. But if the price of milk continues to increase, I’m concerned that for economical reasons the parents will be encouraging the kids to be drinking sweetened drinks in place of milk, which could lead to health problems down the road such as obesity and diabetes.

As part of the news story they were showing some new milk cartons that they say will start to show up on the store shelves soon. I’ve already seen them at Costco; they are squarish and a little bit awkward to handle. The newscasters reported that the reason for the switch to the different jugs is because they can stack them tighter in the truck, which reduces the transportation costs. Well, I’m all about reducing costs!

Video games website

My hubby enjoys playing video games when he gets the chance.  We have a PS 3, and a Wii that he uses most of the time.  He especially enjoys playing the games with his friends and relatives when they come over.  He wants to buy some more Wii games and some PS3 games to have on hand when he has friends over.

Today he told me that he found a website called Gamestoreusa that sells video games cheaper than he has been able to find anywhere else, and that he is going to be ordering a few games from them.  He wants to order the Wii Mario Party 8 game for when we have a party; he says that’s a great party game.  He also wants to order the Beowulf game for the PS3.  He’s not sure what else he’ll be ordering, but I’m sure he’ll find several games to buy!

I like those gelpacs for dishwashers

I had a coupon good for a free box of the Electrosol gelpacs for dishwashers, so I used it to buy a box of them.  This is the first time I’ve used them; I’ve always felt that they were expensive, and I have usually bought the cheapest dishwashing detergent I can find.  I have to say that I really like them a lot!  I will be clipping coupons to buy more of them, that is FOR SURE!  No measuring, no mess, you don’t have to tear open any package, or pay attention to how much powder you pour (or don’t pour.)  Very convenient, and they got my dishes just as clean as any other detergent does.  I was really surprised how quickly I got spoiled, when I run out if I can’t buy more with a coupon and have to go back to “regular” detergent I’ll be feeling cheated somehow.

Hubby wants to buy a treadmill

My hubby has decided that he wants to look into treadmills and cardio machines.  Living in Northern New England has its disadvantages sometimes - we have long cold winters and that is not very conducive to getting outside to exercise.  Since my hubby is diabetic and has high cholesterol, his doctor has been encouraging him to get more exercise.  I’ve suggested that he start his search by checking out the treadmillsguru.com webpage for reviews on treadmills.

I’ll never do that again! (Until the next time I have a brain cramp!)

I’m not usually that scatterbrained that I forget what day of the month it is!  I guess staying home on maternity leave has just run the days together and I forgot that today was the first day of the month.  So what, you may ask?  Well, I decided I wanted to go to the grocery store today - BIG MISTAKE!  The first of the month is the day that the social security checks, and the pension checks, and all the food stamps come out and the grocery stores are MOBBED worse than Christmas time!

I got stuck behind a lady (shopping with four kids) who had FOUR CARTS full of things at checkout, and when the cashier had rung up the order the lady realized that she didn’t have enough money/food stamps to pay for it all so they had to start digging through the carts to pull out items that food stamps wouldn’t pay for.  The kids all started crying because the toys she had promised them had to be left there.  I stood in line for a WHOLE HOUR waiting to check out.

Mental note to self - always look at the calendar date BEFORE going to the grocery store!
